Your script is ready, and you are now looking for the actors who will bring the characters in your story to life. But how do you choose the actors for your film? For a successful casting, first take the time to shortlist your talents using their CVs instead of calling too many for your sessions; this will save you endless hours of auditions! Don’t hesitate to direct during the casting; even an experienced actor may need help getting into the character! Also take the time to properly assess your character and their personality to find the perfect match! Plan a second audition, because the second performance will allow you to learn a little more about your future actors! And in closing, avoid cutting corners! Do not hesitate to be strict and demanding with your requests, because if you are not satisfied with the work of an actor during their audition, you may not be satisfied for the duration of the shoot, which could jeopardize your entire production!

When putting together a team to tell a story intended for television, it is wise to be well surrounded. Who is key to getting the best results? First, a screenwriter or two is not excessive, especially in television, where the repetition of episodes can lead to blank page syndrome! Other screenwriters may also be included in the team as creators; that is to say, they are there to participate in the brainstorming but will not do any screenwriting work per se. Then comes the script editor, who will participate in the development of the story and will work closely with the writers to ensure proper continuity and avoid inconsistencies in the story. Finally, a scriptwriting advisor may also be part of the team to provide an outside perspective on the work already accomplished or to advise the screenwriters on character development, even prior to writing. Naturally, if the director is already identified at the time of development, they may be an additional asset in the project.

So, you want to start writing a screenplay? Here are three mistakes to avoid! First, when you start writing a sequence, you must first think about the image. That is to say, everything you write must immediately translate what we see! Avoid long explanations, go straight to the point! In the same vein, when you write down an idea or a feeling that you want to convey, be sure to choose an effective way of showing it on the screen. A smile or a look can often suffice but can be interpreted in different ways. Indeed, it can be cold, mischievous, naughty, distant, nervous, or even languorous! So, do not hesitate to ask for advice or take a step back to make sure you have the right wording to obtain the desired result. And finally, be flexible in your writing! During a film shoot, your script could be modified along the way. A simple and effective screenplay with additional options in reserve in the event of constraints related to the budget or the shoot will serve you well!

Why do some screenplays that end up in the cinema seem so perfect, as is the case with the films The Shawshank Redemption, A Few Good Men, and Amélie? All these films have something in common: years of work!
First, the film A Few Good Men comes to us from a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin, who sold his screenplay to producer David Brown, who presented the play on Broadway (1989 to 1991). Following these presentations, several changes were made to the story to finally present the new script to film producers. Without the three-year theatrical production, do you think the screenplay would have been as well developed? Probably not. Similarly, the film The Shawshank Redemption is an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel published in 1982. It was reprised by Frank Darabont who contributed his own ideas to make it an excellent screenplay! This shows that four-handed writing can be beneficial for the quality of a film. Finally, Amélie, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who took 17 years to write the screenplay, allows us to obtain the quality of scriptwriting that we find in the film.
Are you familiar with story hunters? Also called studio creators or simply researchers. Their job is to find stories for producers when these fit the company’s production line. It is therefore very important to publish all the stories we write so that these people can find the rare pearl!
Do you know the film Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt? Well, this story comes to us from Japan, from the novelist Sakurazaka, who wrote light novel science fiction series. Among his writings, he published a story recounting the adventures of a young army recruit who had to fight the Mimics. Its original title was All You Need Is Kill. The success of this novel allowed the publisher to translate it into English. Then, one day, an American producer decided to take the story and turn it into a $178 million movie... The moral of this story? Sometimes certain stories deserve to be heard because you never know...
JPM and novels! This year in 2023 could be productive when it comes to publishing novels. Yes, JPM specializes in the publication of feature film scripts but will further develop its catalog of novels. The novel versions of both SüB and Porno, published in 2016 in the form of screenplays, are planned. Why? Because the novel market makes it possible to reach readers directly, unlike with screenplays, which are mainly intended for producers. So, the strategy is to publicize our content in all possible forms before we are able to go ahead with producing a movie. Update on our “Les Zonzons” project! The illustration is progressing well. In fact, we are finishing up the last pages, which means that we will start publishing the book in hard copy very soon.
At this final stage before marketing, it is necessary to number the album pages and add the information pages concerning the album’s production at the beginning of the book, including the producer, printer, ISBN number, etc. At the end of the book, a few pages are added to advertise subsequent albums. As a final step, we decided to design the title page to introduce the story and the characters as part of the cover of this first album to make them known. Everything is assembled and then printed. The measurements must be exact during assembly because the slightest error could result in a result that does not meet industry quality standards.

As spectators following our favourite stars in the media, we often have the impression that producing a film is simple, because from our point of view, there are new things every week. But in reality, for a producer, making a film is often a long and complicated process! It involves several stages, and the filming is just one among many others. But what is the first step that we must think about before anything else? Well, as it is necessary to start from something: the development of an idea!
Yes, everything must start from an idea! Whether it is a book, an original idea to be developed, or even a screenplay, the writing stage is the foundation and can sometimes take months or even years. In addition, throughout the process, the producer will have to make changes in order to adapt it to his project, his environment, his team, his investors, and even his actors! Subsequently, as soon as the script is ready, the producer can move on to the next step, pre-production!

Whether you are toying with the idea of writing a book or a script for a short/feature film, the fact remains that the project can sometimes be somewhat intimidating, even titanic, depending on the case! When producing footage, it is important to have a good cast. There are several ways to find the rare pearl to star in your story, but it is not always easy. Big companies will hire a casting agency that will take care of everything. The agency may solicit actors or even draw from a bank of CVs already received from aspiring actors. The other way is to walk from town to town and make casting calls like the Star Academy show or as some feature film productions have done.
In recent years, online auditions have also been possible. People, in front of their own camera, can audition from anywhere in the world for a large-scale casting call. Naturally, when the producers manage to narrow down the list to a dozen people for their casting, the last audition can take place indoors with a camera, and alongside other actors participating in the audition. The online audition process allows you to consider a much larger pool to find that rare pearl without the costs associated with moving a team across the province or country. This is the method that JPM will use for its next productions.
JPM is in the process of finishing most of the songs planned for The Unfinished Work album. We are entering the final stages: mixing and mastering. These two steps are often done consecutively and give the song its final sound. First, the mix is there to bring a balance between the different soundtracks that make up the song. Sometimes you may want the guitars to be in the foreground, while on other songs you will want to emphasize the vocals. All instruments need to sound perfect to deliver a song with the intended colours.
Once the mixing is finished, there is the mastering… the final step before release. Mastering creates a final copy of the song, a master. This process also improves the sound, the balance of highs and lows, to prepare the song for different media. For example, music streamed over the Internet might have different frequency equalization than a song intended for a CD. One of the units of measurement is the LUFS (Loudness Unit Full Scale), which measures the loudness of a song. For streaming, we would suggest a LUFS of -14. A LUFS of -6 could be considered too strong and might be automatically adjusted by music streaming platforms.

JPM called on director Yanni Aumont to produce the album The Unfinished Work. A studio director is very important in production work. Part of his responsibilities include finding recording studios, booking time slots with the performing musicians, and leading the recording sessions. In addition, he may frequently be responsible for the artistic part of the album in production. He will be able to choose the songs that will appear on the album, write parts of them, put together the arrangements, and guide the artists during the recordings.
Finally, he can take care of the mix and mastering before marketing. Sometimes, this responsibility may be shared if the group already has its own musical aesthetic or when an order is made, as is the case with JPM and the album The Unfinished Work. In such cases, the work will then be done in tandem. The producer's vision and the director's vision as musical artists combine to give the desired result to appeal to the public.

Should we approach the screenwriting of a feature film in the same way as a short film? The answer is no! When you write a short film, think “visual” and “action,” because everything that will be seen must be written, even the emotions of the characters! It is therefore essential that the mood, as well as the characters, be established right from the start, because the duration of a short film generally does not exceed 30 minutes! News from our album project The Unfinished Work! For the production, JPM used studios to record the songs, and the recording world has definitely evolved. First, there is the studio recording with all the musicians, which is something we are all familiar with. Now, however, many artists also have equipment in their own personal studio. They can thus record their respective soundtracks in the comfort of their home using a model composed of drums and bass. JPM has favoured this method for the album.
With this second method, each musician does not have to travel to the studios. Instead, they use common software and equipment to allow seamless synchronization of the individual soundtracks during the audio mixing process. There is also a third method, which consists of using software, such as Ableton Live, and a virtual bank of instruments to create songs directly on the computer without the need for real instruments. You just have to know how to use the software well and integrate a pre-recorded bank of high-quality professional sounds and voila, you can create a song without ever having to play an instrument yourself. This process was used for a few songs on the album.

Following up on our news from last week, here are some of the projects on our agenda for this year and for 2023! We are currently working on the production of a pilot for our web series Together Separately, which will start soon, as the shooting is planned for next September! Also, if funding is obtained, we may shoot our first web series as early as 2023 – details will be revealed as soon as production begins! Finally, a few short films from the novel Face à moi are currently being discussed and could be shot by the end of the year or early 2023. Please note that this aspect of JPM has been part of our strategic planning since its inception in 2015, but as we are first and foremost content producers, we have done our ideation work and hope to put all these ideas into images very soon.

It was in 2022 that we decided to develop the video side of the business. JPM is currently in preproduction for two feature films, Eclipse and The Northern Blonde. We are putting together the production team and doing the financial planning for these two films. A 2D animated Beaver series project is also in gestation. If you are already subscribed to our Beaver Facebook page, you will already know that you will soon have the chance to read about his new adventures in the next volume, "The Mansion of Lost Souls." Perhaps you are wondering how the creative process goes for each of our new issues?
Well, here is a short summary, just for you! And that's really because we love you guys, because we don't usually tell everyone our secrets!
Usually, we write a storyline of a story which allows us to synthesize an idea. It should be summarizable in two or three sentences maximum. Then, we write what we call a short synopsis. A short synopsis, depending on the length of the film or a book, can take a quarter of a page to a full page. In the case of Beaver, Volume 4 will be 46 pages long, so a paragraph or half a page will be enough to make up the short synopsis. For longer films or projects, sometimes a long synopsis is necessary. For example, a film lasting an hour and a half requires a 90-page script (1 page = 1 minute). To write a good screenplay, a long synopsis can be 10 to 20 pages long, which provides the screenwriter with enough details about the screenplay to write it and add the dialogue.

The answer is obviously yes. However, since the two media are very different from each other, they cannot be done together. Even if the scenarist's work is very close to that of the novelist, his writing work must bend to many constraints: a budget, the time spent in each scene, the requirements of the producers, directors, the channel, a distributor, and occasionally the actors. In short, a screenplay will be completed only after various changes and requests have been met. The screenwriter usually bases his work on his own ideas, and it has to be validated by a set of people before it finally sees the light of day on the screen. The writer, who is alone with his story, will not be accountable to anyone if he goes through the self-publishing stage. If he depends on a publishing house, he will obviously have to answer to his publisher. The writer will therefore have much more creative freedom and latitude with his story than the screenwriter.

A wind of change is blowing through JPM: we are currently in production! Our brand-new project? The recording of the rock music album entitled "The Unfinished Work" by the band Fragile.
The songs on the album are mainly composed by the author-composer Sylvain Dufour, whose favourite instrument is the bass. Inspired by 70s prog, the musical style is a mix of this period as much in the composition as in the sound, and it will be interesting for those who want a different listening experience. The arrangements vary a lot from one song to another, which make the album a rich one, musically speaking. Many artists have collaborated on this project. JPM is on a roll when it comes to comics! A new series, The Zonzons, will soon appear!
The first volume, “The Zonzons Leave Earth,” scheduled for release in the spring of 2023, is the story of three guys who leave Earth to seduce the most beautiful women in the galaxy. But when they arrive on the first planet, things don't go as planned. They have to deal with local conflicts. Our Zonzons, whose primary philosophy is hedonism, try to escape the problems in which they are immersed. Their crazy adventures will plunge us into a universe that is totally wild, but without a doubt, hilarious.

For example, a role that you have already written may not completely correspond to the actor or actress chosen for the script, or you may have to change the actor or actress during the shooting.
